Elizabeth Gray Akers, LVT
I am a lifelong animal lover who has been working and volunteering in the animal care field for 10+ years. Aside from fostering and volunteering at the local animal shelter when younger, my first job at age 16 had me in the role of a kennel attendant; thereafter, by the assistance of many supportive mentors and growing responsibilities afforded to me at various animal hospitals, I began a licensed veterinary technician in 2014. I have a passionate for clinical pathology, low-stress handling, physical rehabilitation, comprehensive pain management (based upon multimodal analgesia), and client education — I try to make a difference with every pet that I care for, shaping my behavior and daily structure to that of each client pet. I enjoy teaching pet owners about how to prepare for emergencies ahead of time, the best methods for positive-based behavioral shaping, and how to make unpleasant procedures far less stressful through the use of food treats and other positive stimuli to associate with potential sources of fear and anxiety.
Currently I am the owner and operator of a sole proprietorship, 2nd Quadrant Pet Care, serving clients with professional pet care services within the DC area. Please feel free to browse my website and business-related social media pages to get a better understanding of my dedication to ethical animal care, including providing resources for those who are disenfranchised or who need social aid to better care for themselves and for their pets. I am a Certified Professional Pet Sitter (CPPS), accredited by Pet Sitters International (PSI).
Dani Walker, DVM (former supervising doctor; also a repeat client for pet-sitting):
“Gray is dedicated, knowledgeable, and very trustworthy. Being a vet and having an older dog with a few chronic medical concerns, it was really important to leave her with someone I trust completely. Gray has never let me down and I know my dog is always in good hands with her. It’s always comforting when [my dog] is excited to arrive at Gray’s house for the weekend. I’d highly recommend her.”
Dan Teich, DVM (former boss/practice owner):
“The level of compassion and gentleness that you give to all of these animals is just outstanding.”
Laura N (repeat client):
“Elizabeth [Gray] provided excellent care for my pup and was very attentive to her needs. She has a great understanding and love of dogs and demonstrates a lot of care. She was very accommodating for our last minute request and we are grateful for her taking care of our dog. I wouldn’t hesitate to book her again!”
Leah E (repeat client):
“Gray is attentive, caring, thoughtful and organized. She was communicative and clearly experienced with animal care. I felt comfortable leaving my dog with her overnight for a long weekend, and wouldn’t hesitate to do so again in the future.”
