Manuela Kirsten Garner
I practice at a couple of VetCo locations and incorporate Fear Free strategies while I am working there. The fear free approach brings such happiness to the pets visits. I really love the pets and their people.
Preventing fearfulness in puppies and kittens with rewards like treats, petting and playing with toys while in the office makes them really happy. They usually never even notice their vaccines.
I have you bring in stool samples so the pet will not be stressed. I also have you bring in their favorite treats and toys. Calming acupuncture points can also be massaged during the pets visit to prevent stress.
For pets that have a history of fear I encourage you to watch the videos at Fearfreehappyhomes.com on how to train your pet to enjoy getting in the carrier and going for car rides and have you bring their favorite treats and toys with you. Also use calming pheromones and do training to allow them to have their face, feet ears and back end touched while giving them treats so they will enjoy the touch and find it comfortable. Nutriceuticals like composure and calming XL are available over the counter and you can start them 2 days before the visit. You are also encouraged to get Adaptil for your dog or puppy and Feliway for your cat or kitten and apply the spray to a bandana or towel and bring it for the visit to help your pet feel calm. You can also apply Rescue remedy to your pets skin on the back every 5 minutes for a few times before the visit.
Please call or text me if you have any questions or concerns before your pets visit.
Thank you
