The UC Davis Veterinary Behavior Service offers support for all species of pets. Our Certified Veterinary Behaviorists can:
– Diagnose or rule out medical causes for your pet’s behavior.
– Diagnose and treat a variety of problem behaviors including:
Dogs – repetitive behaviors, fear (owners, sounds, strangers, veterinarian, other household pets), aggression (owners,
strangers, other household pets or unknown animals), separation distress, resource guarding, and more!
Cats: Elimination issues (urine/marking/defecation), destructive behaviors, hyperesthesia, wool sucking, fear (owners,
sounds, strangers, other cats/animals), aggression (owners, other household pets, veterinarian), and more.
We offer treatment plans to initially stop the unwanted behavior, methods of redirection, tools to provide safety, improvement of the human-animal bond, positive reinforcement strategies to train alternative behaviors and desensitization/counterconditioning to triggers. Medications can be prescribed to aide in the over all plan by diminishing fear and anxiety.
