Lesson 1: Fear Free Foundation

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify why prepping pets early ultimately helps the animal throughout life
  • Apply learning principles to create positive associations & reduce fear, anxiety and stress
  • Acquire practical tips and application for teaching puppies and kittens
  • Recognize the importance of constant consideration and adjustment to a kitten’s or puppy’s emotional state throughout interaction & care

Lesson 2: Distractions and Positive Associations

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize when to use distractions
  • Identify possible distractions to employ
  • Apply practical application of distractions in hospital and at home

Lesson 3: Predictability and Familiarity of Care

  • Know how to gradually accustom a kitten or puppy to different types of handling and care
  • Recognize how to build relaxation and positive anticipation with care
  • Apply communication cues to build comfort

Lesson 4: Condition to Equipment

  • List common tools puppies and kittens can be accustomed to early on
  • Explain howto create a positive association with equipment placement and use
  • Teach willing participation from kittens and puppies with desired equipment and tools

Lesson 5: Cooperative & Voluntary Behaviors

  • List the basics of training positioning and stationing behaviors
  • Recognize how to teach behaviors to ease interactions and greeting
  • Identify how to use learned behaviors during vet care
